ITEM


ITEM (algorithm as well as its implementations) is published under the terms of the GNU general public license (GNU GPL).

ITEM is a minimisation technique motivated from Quantum Mechanics. It was originally developed for the image reconstruction for the Compton-Camera. Most modern iterative reconstruction methods are based on maximum likelihood-methods. There the physics of the imaging system is modelled by the means of an action-like functional. ITEM in contrast works with a Hamiltonian-like operator acting on the actual image (which has to be identified with the wavefunction). To reach the ground-state it applies imaginary time evolution (IT) to the normal time evolution formula:
